Help keep Liam in his happy place

Hi! I'm Abbie Lapetina. As many of you know, I’m in legal proceedings to keep custody of my 2 yr old grandson, Liam. I’ve been his legal guardian, full-time single parent, and sole provider since his release from the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at 6 weeks old. I’m the only parent he’s ever known, my home is the only home he's ever known. He has a great life here in Hawaii: we go to the beach, and attend gymnastics and music classes. The back yard is well stocked with a swing set, kiddie pool, sports balls and trucks. I'm fully retired and able to give him my full attention, which has led to a very strong bond between us. He has a large extended family here, including aunties and uncles who adore him, and he adores them.

His mother in CA is now seeking to end the guardianship and take Liam. I won’t go into details regarding my objections to this, as I have no desire to air the dirty laundry. However, I believe with all my heart and soul that it’s in Liam’s best interest to remain with me. I have no doubt that, were he able to express his preference, he'd say this is exactly where he wants to be. This is where he belongs!

Unfortunately, lawyer costs are mounting, and while Liam is worth every penny and more, there’s a limit to my resources. I’m asking for your help with just a portion of the legal costs, as I am more than willing to carry the majority of the expense. (To date I’ve spent $24,800 and there will be more legal expenses to come.)

Those of you who know me well know that it's difficult for me to ask for help, especially financial help. But I'm willing to swallow my pride in order to ensure the best possible outcome for Liam. Liam and I are extremely thankful for any amount you can offer, and we appreciate everyone in our wonderful 'village', even if you're not able to donate.
