Hi everyone!
A few of us in the neighbourhood got together through our local WhatsApp group with one simple goal: to help keep our local area clean and beautiful!
Every Saturday, we meet up at 10:00 AM on the corner of Maryon Road and Woodland Terrace, grab some litter pickers, and spend a few hours picking up rubbish.
The results have been AMAZING! So far we've managed so far:
- 151 bags of rubbish cleared
- 2 drains cleared and running
- 1 drain partially cleared (we are still learning)
- 3.75 tonnes of fly tipped waste cleared
- 2 shopping trolleys removed
- 22 people who have helped clean our neighbourhood so far including 3 people from …….. THE COUNCIL
- 26 people who have funded the project
- 1 rake donated by Friends of Charlton Park
- 1 bin installed
To keep up the momentum, we’re raising funds for more litter pickers, gloves, drain clearing equipment and bin bags, and we’d love to place extra bins at the bus stop and outside the local corner shop to help keep things tidy.
What stuff costs:
- 1 street bin is £100 to £800
- Good litter pickers are about £5 each (bad ones are about £2.50 each)(council ones are £24 each )
- Bags we now get free from the council
- Good gloves are around £3 each.
- Drain scoops are extortionate so we are currently using vertical shovels and screws for gardening. Around £20 to £50
- Brushes and dustpans just ordered for £28. Let's hope.they are good.
