Help an Indigenous Family Stay Together

An Indigenous parent is doing everything possible to keep their neurodivergent child in a loving, supportive environment. The court, unfamiliar with Indigenous parenting, the lasting effects of residential schools, and neurodivergent accommodations, is threatening to remove the child from the only place they feel safe.

At this stage, ICWA can't step in since the child hasn't been removed, and tribal courts cannot help since the case was served outside tribal jurisdiction. The parent is carrying the weight of raising the child solo and representing themselves pro se. They have reached out to every free resource in Alaska, but no one could take on the case due to full caseloads.

They found a highly recommended attorney, but they need a $10,000 retainer to protect their child's future. Your support can help cover this vital legal fee, giving them hope and protection. Once they are represented, there may be additional funds needed for attorney fees. We hope the community can help bear some of this weight.

A gentle note: For safety and privacy reasons, we are unable to share detailed information about this case publicly. We kindly ask everyone to respect the family's privacy and anonymity during this challenging time. Your compassion and support can make a real difference in helping keep this family together and safe.

Your kindness will help keep this Native family together.
