I’m reaching out during a challenging time as I navigate the uncertainty of my housing situation here in Chicago. After a rewarding two-year fellowship with the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics, I found myself facing a new crisis. I moved to Chicago with hope, buoyed by a provisional offer to join the MAPH program at the University of Chicago. Unfortunately, the steep cost of $67,000 for one year was beyond my reach, especially after 11 rejections from PhD programs and the drying up of scholarship funds.

Since then, I’ve been actively seeking employment, sending out numerous job applications, but the timing has been tough. I’m open to all kinds of work, including blue-collar jobs, as long as they offer stability and benefits. In the meantime, I’m fundraising to cover rent for December and January, totaling $2,590. This support would help me avoid eviction and maintain some financial stability as I continue my job search.

Your generosity would mean the world to me during this difficult period. Thank you for considering a contribution to help me stay housed and focused on my future.
