My name is Akeem Anthony Lemonious, and I’m 30 years old. I was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, and moved to America in 2005 to live with my mother. I’ve always worked hard, never asking for handouts, because my parents taught me the value of hard work. I’m just a humble security guard, doing my best to help those around me and put a smile on people’s faces.
On April 4th, 2026, my life changed in an instant. After working 13 hours of overtime, I arrived early for my shift and decided to take a short nap before my shift began to prepare for the long hours. That one decision turned my world upside down. I woke up hours later in excruciating pain, unable to lift my arms, and found my car completely destroyed. I had suffered a massive seizure with no warning or family history, resulting in both shoulders being dislocated and broken, and my spine fractured in several places. I lost my ability to work, drive, and even care for myself. My family rushed to help, but the initial hospital visit didn’t reveal the extent of my injuries. Days later, after unbearable pain and more tests, doctors discovered the true severity of my condition. I was transferred to another hospital for surgery, and my employer let me go while I was still recovering. My car was totaled, and I was left with no income, facing eviction, and unable to support myself or my family.
I know times are tough for everyone, and it’s hard for me to ask for help. I’m not looking for life-changing money—just enough to help me maintain until I can start rebuilding and not be a burden to my loved ones. I’ll be out of work for 6-8 weeks, and any support, no matter how small, would mean the world to me and my family. Thank you for being part of my journey and for helping me get back on my feet.
