Please help me Keep transitional Housing for Veterans open

Hi, my name Kayla. I am new on here and this is a last ditch effort to save this house.. I’m a single mom with big dreams and a deep belief in practical, community-based solutions. Right now, I’m asking for help to keep one of those dreams from slipping away.

I’m raising $32,000 to help cover housing and holding costs for a home I’m using as transitional housing for veterans. One veteran is currently living in the home, and I am working to keep the property stable and available while I wait for the Veterans Administration and related placement channels to assign additional veteran renters.

The financial reality has become difficult to sustain on my own. The monthly mortgage is $2,700, and utilities average about $800 per month, bringing the total monthly cost to roughly $3,500. The Veterans Administration currently pays $1,050 per month for the veteran living in the home, which means the remaining roughly $3,000 each month comes directly out of my pocket. I believe deeply in this work, but carrying this gap alone has slowly drained me.

I originally took out a hard money loan to purchase and quickly fix up the property so it could be made safe and livable. Because my credit took a hit during a difficult period, refinancing into a lower-interest loan has not been an option yet. I was forced to refinance into a DSCR loan with a 14% interest rate, which caused the mortgage payment to spike and made the monthly costs much harder to sustain.

Despite my best efforts, this high-interest loan is the primary reason I have fallen behind. I am currently three months behind on the mortgage and at risk of foreclosure.

Approximately $8,100 of the $32,000 goal would go toward bringing the mortgage current (three months of past-due payments). The remaining funds would be used to cover future mortgage payments, utilities, insurance, and basic maintenance, giving me the time and stability needed to work through the placement process and prevent falling behind again.

The $32,000 goal is meant to both stop the immediate foreclosure risk and provide a reasonable runway for future housing costs, accounting for the gap between what the Veterans Administration currently pays and the true cost of carrying the home. This support would allow me to keep the property stable while longer-term sustainability and additional veteran placements are finalized.

Funds raised will be used directly for:
• past-due and future mortgage payments
• utilities and insurance
• basic maintenance, repairs, and safety needs

This is a grassroots, single mom–owned effort. I am personally responsible for the property, and I’m asking for help not because the dream isn’t worth it — but because carrying it alone has become too much.

Any contribution or share helps keep this home open while placements and longer-term sustainability are finalized. Thank you for supporting veterans — and for helping a mom hold onto a dream of providing safe, comfortable housing for the ladies and gentlemen who fought for us
