Help Kaya Provide Free Meals in Memphis
Donation protected
Welcome to Kaya's Kitchen! Join me on a mission to fight food insecurity in Memphis. Currently, the Hunger Relief Organization estimates that 1 in 5 people in Memphis do not have enough food to be healthy. Our nutrition affects not only our physical health but also mental cognition and emotional wellbeing. When I look around my community, I see more in common than I see different. Folks are hungry. Between long work hours, childcare, health restraints, housing restraints, and stretched budgets, many people in our community feel they don't have the time, money, or energy to eat healthy. I believe everyone deserves access to fresh ingredients and home-cooked food. With the help of your donations, I've opened my kitchen to provide free hot meals to our community.
With the help of four volunteers, our first food distribution was successful, delivering 47 homemade burritos filled with meat, beans, veggies, and lots of flavor. Every donation will be used to purchase ingredients, and supplies such as Tupperware, and tinfoil. As we gather more volunteers and support, I hope to expand the type and quantity of food we're able to donate. Thank you for being a part of this journey. Any donation, big or small, means so much. If you're unable to donate, please help spread our message by sharing this link and following our story on Instagram @kayas_kitchen_
About Kaya's Kitchen
While working as an elementary teacher, I started this business as a way to help my coworkers, friends, and neighbors. I meal prepped a week's worth of food as a way to lighten their load. I showcase original recipes that often started by me looking in my own fridge when money was tight, thinking, "What can I do with this?" My mom used to make magic happen in the kitchen when we struggled to make groceries or had to work with what the food pantry gave us. She is my inspiration in all of this. I hope I can inspire others in the same way to show you can still enjoy flavorful, nutritious food on a budget. I'm possibly the only business owner that has been happy to see a customer leave. She had been consistently ordering meal prep every week, swearing that she didn't have the energy or desire to cook. After a few months, she told me she felt ready to meal prep on her own. Ordering from me had empowered her to start experimenting in the kitchen. I pour love into everything I cook and I hope that is felt by everyone who dines with Kaya's Kitchen.
