Help Kay Shell Fight Cancer

Life is unpredictable, isn't it? No matter the plans that have been made, or the progress and healing that has occurred, life just does its own thing.
Cancer... what a vicious beast. Years ago it had ransacked our father. He fought as hard and as best as he could. After a short period which felt like an eternity, he passed away.
Our brave, strong, and charismatic mother soldiered on. Her tenacity to begin anew and determination to achieve happiness again, led her to North Carolina. In her time there, she formed many friendships with people who became like family.
In 2020, she moved to the Chicagoland area to be close to us. She has always been a phone call away, but having her in close proximity has been such a blessing. Not only is she there for her family, she is there for every person she comes in contact with. At all times she is available to give love, support, and words of encouragement. She is lovingly referred to by many as "Mama Kay."
A few months ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. A bilateral mastectomy is scheduled in order to secure that the cancer does not spread further. This is a serious procedure that will require months of recovery.
She is a recipient of Medicare which will cover 80% of her medical expenses. For that, we are very grateful. However, the remaining balance of this costly surgery, care received, and work missed, is going to be quite financially detrimental to our family.
This unexpected situation is scary, and has opened old wounds from the loss of our father. Cancer is terrifying, but we have banded together and are determined to beat it.
Any support that can be provided during this trying and humbling time would be greatly appreciated. We will make sure to give updates on her progress as the situation moves along.
With love and gratitude,
