My name is Kay and I'm an indigenous trans woman currently living in northern California; at this time, I am facing potential homelessness (a second time, one year after crawling my way out of it by working) after having lost my job back in June and since running out of money. I've been having to ration the food I've been able to get to make it last as long as possible, and walking around out in 90+ degree heat to hand out resumes, fill out applications, and ship things I've sold online to stay afloat.
But despite constantly looking for work for these past two months, nothing seems to have stuck, and I've ended up in a rough spot. This is where this campaign comes in.
I owe $900 for my final month's rent on my current apartment. And this is the final month of my lease, meaning I will need to find a new place to live, and not only pay rent on the new space, but also will need to rent a vehicle to move my belongings. I don't own much, so luckily I won't need anything more than maybe a Uhaul van for moving. This is why I'm setting the goal at around $2k, to give myself just a little bit of wiggle room in case of any unexpected costs that arise, and also to afford food and necessities.
I don't feel especially comfortable asking for donations from strangers on the internet, even though I would never begrudge anyone for doing it, and have donated to such fundraisers many times in the past too. But I don't have anywhere else to turn at this time; I don't have nearby family or friends who are equipped with the space or means to let me live with them if I don't have anywhere to go.
So I deeply and truly appreciate every bit of help that people are willing to give. With any luck, and with your help, I'll be back on my feet in no time; this is, as I mentioned above, not my first tangle with housing insecurity. If you aren't able to contribute, please pass this fundraiser along so that I might reach the goal and stay housed and safe! Thank you for reading!
