Help Katie Rebuild After Surviving an Attempted Murder

My name is Cortnie, and I am creating this fundraiser with Katie’s full knowledge and permission.

Katie is one of my closest friends. She is one of the strongest, kindest, and most selfless people I have ever known. Through some of the hardest seasons of my life, Katie has stood beside me with unwavering love, encouragement, and support. She has been there for me more times than I can count, never asking for anything in return. She is the kind of friend everyone hopes to have—someone who quietly shows up, listens without judgment, and gives even when she has little left to give herself.

Now, she needs us.

On the morning of June 25, 2026, Katie was walking from the parking garage to the store she manages in downtown Boulder when her life changed forever.

She wasn’t distracted. She wasn’t looking at her phone. She wasn’t doing anything wrong. She was simply walking into work when a stranger walked directly toward her. He looked her in the eyes, grabbed her by the back of her head, and began violently attacking her with a knife. In a matter of seconds, what should have been an ordinary walk into work became a fight for her life.

Katie is a survivor of an attempted murder.

According to the Boulder Police Department, the suspect later told detectives he came to Boulder intending to hurt people. He has since been charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of felony menacing, and one count of first-degree assault. While the criminal case will continue through the court system, Katie is left living with the emotional and psychological aftermath every single day.

Katie survived.

But surviving was only the beginning.

The physical injuries will heal. The trauma is a much longer journey.

Since that day, Katie has been living with overwhelming anxiety, fear, and emotional trauma. Something as ordinary as walking into work, walking through a parking garage, or simply feeling safe in public has been forever changed. The effects of surviving a violent attack don’t disappear once the wounds begin to heal.

Katie is now working toward rebuilding her life, but healing from trauma requires time, support, and professional therapy. Trauma counseling is essential to helping her process what happened and regain a sense of safety, but it also comes with financial costs during a time when life already feels overwhelming.

As a devoted mother and hardworking woman, Katie has always done everything she could to provide for herself and her family. Unfortunately, the bills don’t stop after a tragedy. Rent, utilities, groceries, medical expenses, and the cost of therapy continue while she is trying to recover from an experience no one should ever have to endure.

Every donation will help Katie with:

* Trauma therapy and counseling
* Lost income during recovery
* Rent, utilities, and everyday living expenses
* Medical and recovery-related expenses
* The financial stability to focus on healing instead of worrying about how she will make it through each month

This fundraiser is also about awareness.

Katie wasn’t distracted. She wasn’t looking at her phone. She wasn’t wearing headphones. She was simply walking into work when a stranger intentionally approached her and attacked her without warning. It is a heartbreaking reminder that sometimes victims do everything right, and terrible things can still happen.

The headlines lasted a day. The trauma will last much longer.

If you are able to donate, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you are unable to give, sharing Katie’s story is another meaningful way to help.

Katie has spent years showing up for the people she loves.

Now it’s our turn to show up for her.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Cortnie
