Hi, my name is Kathleen, (Many of you know me by my middle name Amanda) and I’m writing this with a heart full of grief, worry, and hope. My family is standing at a crossroads we never saw coming—caught in a storm of loss, injury, financial strain, and now the threat of homelessness. We’re doing everything we can to hold on, but the ground beneath us keeps shifting.

In the last week of June my step daughter was in a near fatal accident. When she was released to go home My Husband was in a motorcycle accident on his way to care and stay with her. He’s now recovering and unable to work. I live with my own disability and limited mobility, and my income is restricted because of it. Around the same time, my child support stopped unexpectedly when my ex lost his job—leaving us with even fewer resources.

On August 18th, our landlord—who had also been a close friend—told us she was selling the house due to insurance issues. Then on September 15th, she informally gave us notice to vacate by October 15th.

We have three children who remain home with us, and we’re urgently searching for a 4-bedroom home that allows pets (we have a dog and two cats) and keeps them in their current school district. Our pets mean the world to us. They’ve been a source of comfort through grief, anxiety, and change—and keeping them with us is essential to our healing and stability. But with limited income, no savings, and physical limitations that make packing and moving even harder, we simply can’t afford the upfront costs of relocation.

This uncertainty has deeply affected our children. They’re experiencing anxiety and stress from not knowing where we’ll go next. We’re trying to stay strong for them, but the weight is heavy—and we need help.
