Help Kat Beat Brain Cancer

Hi, my name is Karmen Stevens. I am the big sister to a beautiful young woman named Kaitlynn Porter (aka: Kat).

In July we received some devastating news and prognosis in regards to a brain tumor found in the middle of my 24 year old sister’s brain. The recent biopsy suggests it is a grade III Anaplastic Astrocytoma with piloid features. And is deemed inoperable due to its location and connection to the spinal cord. 

Though she was 18 weeks pregnant (with a baby girl) when diagnosed…radiation and chemo were recommended to start immediately to improve her chances of survival. Unfortunately the treatments caused her amniotic fluid to leak and my sisters body was no longer able to support the growing baby. Because of this my sister was encouraged to do a medical excused abortion. Which of course on top of everything else was nothing short of devastating to Kat and her new husband. 

Kat’s tumor is now considered to be in a “dormant” stage and she is beginning her 2nd round of Chemo. She had an awful reaction to the dosage… but we have hope we will be guided to the right treatment plan that will help her be one of the success stories. 

As her big sister there’s one thing I know… she is a FIGHTER and we are exploring all avenues and exhausting all options to beat this. But we could use some help to support her, her spouse, and her 3 year old baby girl through this tragic adventure we’ve found ourselves on. As far as we can tell, her insurance covers some, but not all of her treatments, and unfortunately their income has been cut in half due to Kat not being able to work. Bills are tight, treatment is expensive, and we are hoping to help take some of the unnecessary weight off her shoulders.
