Hi, my name is Lisa, and I’m asking for help on behalf of my close friend, Karin, and her 19-year-old son, JB. Two weeks ago, their lives were turned upside down when Karin’s ex-boyfriend broke into her home in Santee with a gun. Thankfully, JB was at work at the time. And by God’s grace, Karin was able to escape before things escalated further. What followed was a terrifying SWAT standoff. The intruder barricaded himself inside the home, fired a shot at police, and was killed during the incident. The house was torn apart — the front door busted in, tear gas deployed, drones sent in — and nearly everything Karin owned was damaged.
Now, instead of receiving support for surviving something so traumatic, Karin is being threatened with eviction by her landlord. She’s doing all the right things and has consulted with an attorney, but legal help is expensive. On top of that, she’s facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding a home from scratch while still processing the trauma of what she went through. We are hoping to help Karin and JB cover attorney fees to fight the eviction and protect their rights, secure temporary housing if needed, replace damaged belongings, and afford deposits and moving expenses if they need to start over somewhere new.
Karin is a survivor. She’s strong and resilient — but even the strongest people need help sometimes. If you can give anything at all, it would mean the world. And if you can’t donate right now, sharing this with others is just as powerful. Let’s come together to show Karin and JB they are not alone, and that healing is possible, even after something like this. With love and gratitude,
Lisa
