Hello friends and family,
My sister Karen and her son Stephen need our help. Robert, Karen's husband for 20 years and Stephen's father, died on New Year's Eve of complications from Diabetes. Both Karen and Stephen have disabilities that leave them unable to live independently or secure employment. Robert was their primary caregiver and only source of income. With his death, this leaves them in desperate need of help. Our hearts ache for Karen and Stephen's predicament, but are torn open knowing that through the stress of all their urgent needs, they are grieving the loss of a husband and father.
Immediately after Robert's passing, our family relocated Karen and Stephen from South Carolina, where they had very limited resources and assistance available, to Everett, Washington, to be closer to Karen's family. We are desperately working towards securing low/no income housing, food aid, mental and physical health services, and in-home caregiver services but the wheels of bureaucracy seem to turn slowly when the needs are so immediate.
We are diligently working to ensure a safe and thriving environment for them, but we need so much more help than we can give with the limited amount of time and finances available to us. We hope you'll consider lending a much-needed hand.
Our family needs your help in any way you are able. Please consider helping fund Karen & Stephen's immediate needs, such as deposit money for an apartment, money for utilities and supplies needed to furnish their living space, donating daily use items for their apartment, or forwarding resources that we may not know about (such as aid programs, free services, etc). Supporting them will truly require a village. Our ultimate goal is to create a network of services and supplies that enable Karen and Stephen to live with the dignity, peace, and normalcy they deserve, and ultimately experience a feeling that they matter to the world and are loved.
