Help Kai Navigate Life After Christian's Passing

Donation protected
UPDATE:
Sadly, Christian took his last breath at approximately 9:57 PM on Sunday November 17th. We want to thank you all so much for contributing, and sharing our GoFund me. Many unexpected costs have come up, and we are just forever grateful for you all. Thank you for keeping us afloat during these heartbreaking times.

Christian and I couldn’t believe our son, Kai, turned 18 this year. As young parents who struggled for years to coparent, we had come to such a beautiful place together. We were friends, and most importantly, we centered our world’s around our beautiful son. 18 is a huge milestone, especially for us. Pride was an understatement. As parents you daydream about what life will be like with an adult son. You fantasize about grandchildren and who they’ll take after. You think of all of the ways you will guide them through life’s challenges, and we were going to do it all together.
Then on Saturday, November 2nd, a truly unfathomable thing happened. Kai received a heartbreaking phone call that would change all of our lives forever. Christian was found unresponsive, with a massive brain aneurism, and was on life support. Kai is his next of kin, and was going to have to make all of the difficult medical decisions for his father.
We have spent the past week in San Francisco, grieving with family and close friends, and Kai has been so incredibly brave. Yesterday, we found out that there is no way Christian will recover from this, and if we chose to keep him alive, he would be in a vegetative state requiring 24-7 care.
No one should have to make these choices for a loved one, but certainly not an 18 year old for his father. Kai has relied on his father’s wisdom and has clung to every conversation they’ve had about life and death, and how Christian would have and wouldn’t have wanted to live his life.
As a family, guiding Kai through these decisions and encouraging him to channel his father, we have decided to let Christian go at the end of next week, after everyone has had a chance to say good-bye.
One thing we know for sure, is every ounce of fighting that Christian has done, is for Kai. Kai is his whole world, and everyone will tell you that. Unfortunately, Christian isn’t leaving this world with much, and financially he wasn’t in the best position. Christian was still helping a bit financially with Kai, as he will be graduating High School at the end of this year. We know Christian would be at peace knowing that Kai will have all that he needs, and we will make sure of that.
If you are at all able to donate to our son, it would mean the world to all of us. There have already been a lot of costs accumulating, and there will be more unforeseeable costs as we navigate these really challenging next few days. We also hope to get Kai therapy, and grief counseling as we cannot fathom how he must be feeling right now.
If you are unable to donate, please share this, as every bit counts right now.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. ❤️
