Love is stronger than cancer...Ayuda a Julieta

I'm starting this fundraiser for the youngest child of a beloved family in our community.

Help for Julieta

About 5 months ago we moved our family to the United States from Mexico. Julieta’s father had a new job here, and we were getting to know this new place. We were fortunate to find a beautiful school community, and Julieta and her sisters quickly adapted to their new surroundings and began to enjoy their new life.

Nevertheless, about 2 weeks ago our life completely turned upside down when our little Julieta was diagnosed with ADEM (Acute Dessimated Encephaylomyelitiis)--it is a rare kind of inflammation that affects the brain and spinal cord, usually in children. It damages the coating that protects nerve fibers, called myelin. Julieta’s symptoms were very strange, at first it seemed like something was wrong with her stomach. Then Julieta was not able to hold any food in her stomach. We discovered that there was a problem with our insurance in the States, and Julieta was not actually covered. We then decided to take her to Mexico, where we know the medical system and we have a strong network of support.

After a few days in the hospital, Julieta seemed to be improving so we returned to Sacramento. But as soon as we got back the vomiting started again, and we returned to the hospital in Tiajuana. An MRI showed that she had a build-up of fluid deep within the brain. Doctors said that it could be caused by an infection. On Friday February 18, she had an emergency surgery to remove the liquid from her brain. The next day we were overjoyed when she asked for food and showed improvement. But today Sunday, February 20, Julieta had a very bad day and the doctors didn’t know the cause. They decided to transport her to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. Due to the fact that we have not been able to resolve the issue with the insurance company, all of our expenses are coming out of pocket.

Julieta is a joyful and loving child. She loves to sing, be in nature. She enjoys her school and she loves her sisters. We are so grateful for all of your prayers and economic support during this devastating and difficult time in our lives. All donations will go toward Julieta’s medical treatment. Ayuda a Julieta

Hace 5 meses que llegamos a vivir a Estados Unidos por una oportunidad de trabajo del papá de Julieta, habíamos estado conociendo el lugar y abriéndonos camino en éste nuevo país, encontrando una hermosa comunidad escolar en la que Julieta y sus hermanas se adaptaron pronto y comenzaron a disfrutar de su nueva vida.

Sin embargo, hace un par de semanas nuestra vida cambió por completo cuando nuestra pequeña Julieta fue diagnosticada con encefalomielitis diseminada aguda. un transtorno inflamatorio-desmilinizante del sistema nervioso central. Los síntomas de Julieta fueron muy confusos desde un inicio pues todo parecía un malestar estomacal, pero cuando ella continuaba con vómito y sin tolerar alimento y nos dimos a la tarea de buscar ayuda médica nos dimos cuenta que debido a un error con el seguro de gastos médicos, de la compañía donde trabaja su papá, Julieta no estaba cubierta por el seguro. Tratamos de arreglar esta situación pero no nos daban una fecha concreta para hacerlo. Fue así que decidimos llevarla a atender a México donde conocemos bien el sistema de salud y tenemos una buena red de apoyo.

A los pocos dias de ser atendida Julieta estaba estable y fue dada de alta y regresamos a casa pero casi de imediato comenzó de nuevo con vómito y no toleraba ni líquidos ni alimento por lo que tuvimos que volverla a hospitalizar. En una resonancia magnética detectaron hidrocefalia y en ese momento los doctores nos dijeron que podría deberse a un proceso infeccioso de tuberculosis o coccicoides y el viernes 18 de febrero de 2022, la pasaron a cirugía para ponerle una válvula para drenar el líquido. Al día siguiente Julieta mostró mejoría pero hoy 20 de Febrero, de nueva cuenta tuvo un día muy malo y los doctores no han podido encontrar la causa, por lo que decidieron trasladarla al Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. Debido a que sigue sin resolverse lo del seguro de gastos médicos con la empresa, todos los gastos los hemos estado pagando de nuestra bolsa.

Julieta es una niña alegre y amigable, a quien le encanta cantar, estar en contacto con la naturaleza, disfruta mucho su escuela y ama con todo su corazòn sus hermanas. Agradecemos de todo corazon sus oraciones y el apoyo económico que puedan darnos durante éstos devastadores y difíciles momentos. El dinero será utilizado para pagar los gastos de los estudios y tratamientos que July ha requerido y seguirá requiriendo hasta que tengamos un diagnóstico y tratamiento adecuado.
