In January 2026, Juan was working an Uber shift when he unknowingly drove into an ICE checkpoint. ICE stopped him, and in fear, he ran door to door begging for help, but no one opened their door. Juan was apprehended by ICE, struck in the neck, and thrown to the ground.

Juan was injured, denied medical and basic care in detention, lost 20 pounds in 12 days, and was moved between detention centers across multiple states with almost no contact with his family. By late February, he was deported to El Salvador.

Later, eyewitness videos of ICE beating Juan and taking him away were sent to his daughters—images that have left them deeply shaken and traumatized.

Juan has always been a loving, present father with a strong bond with his two daughters. He also helped support them financially, and his sudden disappearance has left his daughters and family emotionally shattered and without the stability he provided.
