My name is Angelica, and today I’m reaching out with a plea straight from my heart. My older brother, Juane, is a brilliant, kind, and passionate person whose life was turned upside down by a debilitating health condition, one that appeared suddenly and has kept him from living the future he worked so hard for.

Just over a year ago, Juane was pursuing his Master’s degree in Biological Sciences at the National University of Colombia. He had only recently graduated from his undergraduate studies -barely four months before- and was stepping into a new chapter filled with excitement, research, and big dreams.

But then, everything changed. A COVID-19 infection triggered a severe post-viral condition that has completely altered his life. Since then, his health has steadily declined. Today, his symptoms are so severe that he can’t remain seated for more than 10 minutes without feeling overwhelming exhaustion.

This illness has forced him to pause his studies, leave the city where he lived, and move back in with our parents to receive daily care and support. It’s been over a year of uncertainty, pain, and searching for answers, but we are determined not to give up.
