On the night of Sunday, July 20, 2025, around 10:30 p.m. in Bakersfield, CA, our beloved Juan Antonio Soria Calvillo—just 20 years old—was involved in a tragic accident on his mini bike. On his way home from a baby shower, he was struck by a van near Union Avenue and Bernard Street. The crash left him critically injured, and he was rushed to the ICU. Juan suffered severe trauma to his face, internal bleeding in his head, a lacerated liver, and multiple broken bones in his arms, legs, and hips. He has already undergone several emergency surgeries, and doctors are continuing to fight to stabilize him. His condition is critical, and the road ahead will involve more surgeries, long-term care, and rehabilitation.

Juan is a bright, kind-hearted young man who brings joy to everyone around him. Since he was little, he has always put others before himself. One of the things that makes Juan special is his compassion for animals—he regularly cares for street cats and dogs in his neighborhood, making sure they have food and shelter. The animals he looks after are waiting for him to come home, just like we are.

Right now, our family is doing everything we can to be by Juan’s side, but the financial strain of medical expenses not covered by insurance, transportation, and time off work is overwhelming.
