Help Juan Nicolás’s Family Find Safety

Juan Nicolás, just two months old, was the youngest detainee in Dilley, Texas. He was sick with a cough for weeks while in detention and did not receive any medical care. His condition worsened to the point of having episodes of choking on his vomit, and then he was finally rushed by ambulance to a hospital after being unresponsive. Just 24 hours after being hospitalized, he was sent back to the detention center and then deported immediately afterwards. He and his family were left at the border with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a small amount of cash from their commissary account.

Juan Nicolás’s family came to the United States seeking asylum, hoping to find safety and a better future. Instead, they spent more than a month in detention — this baby has lived half of his short life behind bars. They had hoped to resolve their immigration case within the United States, but on February 17, they were deported under false pretenses. Now, they are back in the country they fled, left with nothing and facing an uncertain future.

The family cannot stay in Mexico and believes they can find safety in Guatemala, where they have some family. The funds raised will help them secure housing, meet their basic needs, and provide a safe environment for Juan Nicolás and his sister, Mía. The family is deeply grateful to everyone who has shared their story and offered love and support during this incredibly difficult time.

_________
