My family is in much need of your prayers and support to get through this challenging time. We were involved in a tragic car accident which caused Juan, my husband and the primary income provider for the family, to be hospitalized with broken pelvis and fractured spine, ruptured tendons and nerves. We understand that this will be a lengthy journey of recovery before we could get back to our feet. Hence, with our dear brothers and sisters in Christ's help, we put up this GoFundMe page to kindly ask for your financial assistance to help with our upcoming six-month living expenses.
Here's what happened...
Injury & Treatment:
Juan, my husband, suffered 2 breakages in his pelvis and 3 fractures in his spine. He was taken to the Tampa General Hospital where he underwent 10 hours of surgery the following day. He has gone through surgical procedures consisting of spinal fusion to reconnect the nerves in the lumbar and putting on metal plate and 8 screws in the spine. They then flipped him over to put a plate in the front of his pelvis when attaching the tendons in his pelvis. And then rolled him back over to insert 2 screws into the back of his pelvis. He is being treated at Tampa General Hospital for at least 2 weeks dependent on the recovery. He will then be transferred to Naples Rehabilitation facility where he'll need to learn to walk again.
Ava, our 13 year old daughter, suffered a fractured pinky, cuts on hand and forehead, and minor scratches bumps and bruises.
The Accident:
On Saturday, August 31st, Juan was driving our truck at 65 mph on Highway 27 with me and our 13 year old daughter Ava on his truck and towing a trailer carrying a side-by-side. He was rear-ended by an an off duty fire rescue. The initial impact caused the trailer to come off the hitch and flipped. Then, the trailer hit our truck that sent the truck to flip which we believed for about 5 times. With God's grace, Juan was able to crawl out but then collapsed on his face because of the extreme pain.
Ava was stuck in her seat belt but was released and crawled out of the truck.
My head was stuck in between the back seat and door, torso was stuck in between the seats and center console, and my foot was stuck under the dash. The lady who rear ended us helped cut my seatbelt, I was able to force my foot out and was able to turn over on all fours. My head and torso stayed stuck for about 20 minutes until the Fire Rescue Service arrived and cut off the doors and center console.
How are we managing:
With the need to help Juan 24/7, I am staying at the hospital with him while trying to get medical leave from work. Barely making ends meet himself, my 23 year old son who moved back home recently is now taking care of his 2 younger siblings, taking them to/from school, feeding them while helping his dad.
