Joy  Porras Gasalatan is a 37 year old mother of 3 living in a remote province in the Philippines called Cavite.  Her mother, Rose Porras, got the call on Monday from her frantic grandkids that there was something wrong with their mom.  Rose who lives here in the US, instructed them to call the ambulance.  That was at 10am on Monday.  The ambulance didn't come until 4pm because they live outside the city in a remote province.  Now she is in the hospital De La Salle University Medical Center, who told her she suffered a massive stroke and is half paralyzed.  She can't speak and because of Covid, can't see her family.

Anyone who knows me knows I have two moms.  My biological mom Arlene and my other mom Milagros or "Rose" for short.  When I met Rose, I was still an infant and she was a teenager that took care of me in the Philippines.  She was an orphan, as both her parents passed when she was a small child.  She told me she had to start working in the 5th grade when she was 10.  She was taking care of herself by moving out of her home and becoming my caretaker.  She re-enrolled in school,  and in sophomore year high school, she became a teenage mom and had her daughter.  It brought her so much happiness that she named her Joy.  In order to support Joy and Joy's father, she came with us to the United States back in the early 80's.  Every month, she sent care packages and all the money she made back to her family in the Philippines.  Because of immigration laws, what was supposed to be a few months became many years.  Rose raised me and my sister all the way through our childhood years.

Fast forward to 2019 and Joy has a family of her own with 3 kids.  Rose, now a US Citizen, works as a caregiver to the elderly and supports Joy's family including her 3 grandchildren.  Joy and Rose have only every communicated by mail, phone calls, and recently video calls.  They were planning on being reunited after 30+ years of separation in 2020, then Covid hit and travel restrictions put a hold on their plans.

Now in 2021, Joy is in the hospital.  She can't speak, but Rose has been trying to get through and call her so Joy can hear her voice. In the Philippines, health care is only given to those that pay in advance.  The cost is 43,800 pesos a day, which is over $1000 dollars US / day.  Rose is currently paying for Joy's care with her savings.

But as Rose's savings deplete, she needs help to pay for Joy's hospital care.  I want nothing more than Rose to be reunited with her daughter Joy.  If anyone knows me, I'm the person I am today largely because of Rose's love in raising me.  100% of your proceeds go to Joy's hospital care and rehabilitation - and to support Rose's 3 grandchildren in this time of need.

I'm asking for your prayers for Joy, Rose, and her family.  If you have the means to help financially please do, or please forward to others.  Her family thanks you!
