Josue had struggled part of his life with back pain but doctors never diagnosed him with anything serious it wasn’t until december 6th Josue had an indoor soccer game in which he had to be benched for the second half because of the pain. When he woke up the next morning and could barely stand/walk due to the pain in his back. He had my mom drive him to the doctors at around 9am not thinking it would be too serious, little did we know that would be the last time he was home for almost 2 months now. The doctors found a cancerous mass in his back and he was transferred to parnassus ucsf at around 3 am a few hours after they notified my mom about the mass for emergency surgery. The surgery was performed by 6 surgeons and lasted 12 hours. The tumor weighed a little over 2 lbs and had taken over his spinal cord most of his back and part of his ribs touching his lungs. After waking up from surgery the doctors said the surgery went great and the tumor was successfully removed and with chemotherapy he would be on the way to a full recovery. This was until a few days later on December 22 he had an mri and ct pet scan which revealed that the cancer was metastatic and had spread throughout his left side, down to his left hip. He was then diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma which is a very rare type of cancer and only affects up to 400 people a year. This meant he needed chemo as soon as possible and had to hold off his physical and occupational therapy where he was going to re learn to walk and get his strength/feeling in his legs back. Throughout all of this Josué has been in a lot of pain and couldn’t even be home for Christmas or New Years to be with his family and may not even be home for his 19th birthday. Josue was a healthy teenager and never expected this tragedy. Josue started Chemotherapy December 30th and has since been struggling with all of the side effects and risks. I started this go fund me to help the cover the costs of his medical bills as well as personal bills since he had to resign from his job. Anything and everything is appreciated as well as just sharing. Thank you
