Initially my campaign was about getting help to relocate our furniture from storage. Then I got behind on storage payments and was trying to save our clothes and furniture altogether. Currently and formerly my siblings and I are victims of Domestic Violence which limits what's safe for me to disclose. We've requested under the Violence Against Women's act to relocate and are approved but we have to finance that relocation ourselves as well as new rental deposit amount. This includes transportation for us as well as moving our furniture and clothes once we're able to save our storage unit. This is our real life at the present moment. I've found another house to rent, section 8 will cover the rent but I must pay the $1,900 rental deposit on my own. Our current Landlord is refusing to honor our protections under the Violence Against Women's Act and instead is penalizing us for breaking the lease and charging me one months rent $1,318 and refusing to refund our $900 security deposit when we vacate. She refused to sign off on an Intent to Vacate form given to us by our Housing Agency. I have since done an intake with SC Legal Aide services. I'm waiting on my appointment. I'm praying that the community will help my siblings and I restart our lives in a safe location.
People are wondering why I don't receive kinship money for my siblings, the answer is that when I acquired about it the caseworker told me that DCF would have to take legal custody of my siblings and that a home study would then be done in order to approve me for kinship care funding. The worker made sure to implore upon me that there isn't any guarantee that my siblings would be placed back into my care. That was a risk that my siblings and I don't care to take. I currently receive Section 8 Housing for my siblings and Food Stamp Benefits as well as Medicaid. We don't qualify for any further assistance. I've discussed at lengths with my siblings about Foster Care and they don't want to go. I was in foster care for two years when they were younger and it was a terrible experience that I don't want for them. I know that there are some good homes but I'm not willing to accept that risk. We've experienced enough trauma. I just want to relocate over the holidays and start fresh.
My initial campaign
My name is Joshua, and I'm a caregiver to my younger siblings. I've done so for the last 2+ years (since I was 18). I've been struggling financially to provide for our family. Sometimes we go without. I'm working, but most of my check goes towards transportation to and from work and utilities. We were unhoused for a while, living in a motel. I've secured housing since then. All our possessions are in storage in the state of Georgia. We recently relocated back to South Carolina. I don't have a license, nor do I know how to drive. We don't have a support system of any kind, so we're unable to furnish our new home with our furniture that's in storage. I truly believe that it's more beneficial to stay together as a family. We're all we've got. I'm asking the community for help to hire movers to get our furniture relocated from storage in Georgia back to South Carolina. I realize that things are truly hard for lots of people in today's climate, but I'm praying that those who have a heart and mind to help our family do just that. Thank you all in advance!

Backstory: In June of 2024 we were allowed to relocate under the Violence Against Women Act. We left everything behind except a bag of clothes each and a blanket. We relocated to another state via a Lyft ride. We lived in our new rental for an entire year. For the first 7 months we had no furniture or beds. After months of working and saving I was able to buy furniture and more clothing for us. At the end of our lease we decided to relocate back to our home state (bad idea). We had to put everything in storage in the hopes we'd find help relocating our furniture as well. It's now been 7 months and we still can't find help. Trust me we've tried everything including churches and non profits. I'm now no longer employed due to lack of transportation. I've fallen behind on my storage fees making sure our rent and utilities don't get behind. I'm currently two months behind on storage fees plus late fees and fines. It's $393 to save our storage unit that is currently up for auction. Anything helps. Thanks in advance.
