Josh and his mama Julia need our support.
This March Josh had what appeared to be a stomach flu that simply wouldn’t go away. He was admitted to the Montreal Children’s Hospital for further investigation. After mountains of tests Josh was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition. When other avenues of treatment failed it was determined he would need immunosuppressive therapy, most likely for the rest of his life.
For five long weeks in hospital Julia stayed by his side night and day. Due to Covid19 no one was allowed in to offer her any respite. Her level of dedication to her son and the optimism and presence which she provided him were truly an inspiration. When they were finally able to go home they were overjoyed. Sadly their time out of hospital was short. Three weeks ago Josh developed a mystery infection and has been in intensive care. The hospital is providing him wonderful care but the cause of the infection remains unknown.
As a single mother, Julia is exclusively caring for Josh around the clock. His medical needs are still extensive and, because he is so severely immunosuppressed, no one is allowed to go in to help.
The impact on this precious family of two has been profound. Julia has not been able to work since Josh first became sick this March. Her extended family lives in the US so her community is all she has. We are now turning to you, dear community, for support. We’d like to ease some of her burden by :
☆ Making sure the rent is paid
☆ Keeping the lights on
☆ Filling the fridge with healthy food once Josh is home
☆ Providing Josh with the adjunctive therapies he needs
Today this little family is shrouded in the not-knowing. Not knowing when they can return home, not knowing what the future will look like, not knowing when Julia can return to work, not knowing when their friends and family can step in, in person, for support. What together we can give them is a little piece of knowing that they aren’t facing this challenge alone.
