Hi, it’s me, Adam. I’m raising funds to buy a new mattress for my volunteer client, Jorge. I have been volunteering with Jorge for almost two years through the Shanti Project. Shanti pairs LGBT seniors with volunteers to give them practical and emotional support. Jorge and I meet weekly to hang out, catch up, laugh, share meals, go on walks, to museums, etc.

Jorge is 70 years old and originally from Guadalajara, Mexico. He immigrated to LA and eventually SF. Though he is a skilled tradesman, he had a hard time getting established in the US and an untimely workplace injury further complicated matters. As such, he lives on a fixed income and in subsidized housing. Anyone who has met him knows he is a radiant and inquisitive soul. Jorge is always looking for ways to make life better for those around him.

In the past year, he has been suffering from back pain as well as other old age-related ailments and more than one doctor has recommended he upgrade his mattress. We have spoken about this possibility and he approved of the firmness of the Beautyrest Black. I will purchase the mattress through Pottery Barn and any additional funds will go to Jorge in the form of a grocery store gift card. Please chip in what you can to help out a lovely and caring human.
