My name is Scott Cowan, and I’m Jordan’s uncle. I’m organizing this fundraiser with Jordan’s full knowledge and permission to help him secure safe housing immediately.
Jordan is 37 years old and lives in Southwest Portland, Oregon. He has spent his entire life facing a rare genetic disease called Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2), which causes tumors to grow on nerves in the brain, inner ear, and spinal cord. Over time, NF2 has taken so much from him. Jordan is now completely deaf, mostly blind, and has reduced motor control in his hands and feet. Despite that, he continues to live with courage, humor, intelligence, and a level of determination most people will never fully understand.
Right now, Jordan is facing an urgent crisis:
He is losing the only affordable home he has had for the last 15 years.
Jordan has lived in the same basement apartment for 15 years because his aunt generously charged him very little rent. Last year, she passed away unexpectedly. The home is now being sold by the estate, and Jordan has been given 60 days notice. He must move out by May 15, 2026.
For most people, moving is stressful. For Jordan, it is much more than that.
Because of his disability, Jordan cannot simply move into just any apartment. He needs a place that is:
Ground floor or elevator accessible
No more than 1–2 steps
Close to public transit
Within short walking distance to quality food
Near family and lifelong friends in Southwest Portland, who are a critical part of his daily support system
Jordan is doing everything right. He works part-time helping other disabled people identify programs and assistance they qualify for. He earns about $1,200 per month from work and receives about $800 per month in Social Security benefits. He has already applied for HUD and is actively pursuing every available resource, but the wait for subsidized housing is long — and he needs help now.
Jordan has no savings.
The hard truth is this: even though he is responsible, hardworking, and deeply loved, he cannot bridge the gap between what he can afford and what safe housing in Portland costs today.
We are raising funds to help Jordan:
Pay a security deposit
Cover rent for a safe studio apartment
Cover utilities and move-in costs
Help him stay housed while he waits for long-term housing assistance
Current estimated housing costs:
$1,500/month rent
$200/month utilities
$1,500 security deposit
Jordan’s long-term housing need may extend much longer while he remains on waitlists, but right now our immediate priority is simple:
get him safely moved and keep him housed.
Our family is helping in every way we can — transportation, apartment searching, move coordination, furniture, and co-signing if needed — but most of us are retired or living on fixed incomes, and we simply cannot cover Portland housing costs alone.
If you know Jordan, you know this: he is one of the strongest, smartest, funniest, and most resilient people you will ever meet.
He was diagnosed with NF2 as a child. He fought his way through surgeries, hearing loss, vision loss, and progressive physical limitations. He took 10 years to earn his psychology degree because reading and communication were so difficult — and he still finished. Today, he uses that same strength to help other disabled people find the assistance they need.
One of the things that says the most about Jordan is this: even in the middle of his own challenges, he has chosen to spend his time helping other disabled people.
Jordan has never asked life to be easy. He has only asked for the chance to keep going.
If you can donate, thank you.
If you can’t donate right now, please share this fundraiser.
Every share matters. Every dollar helps.
Most of all, every act of kindness helps keep Jordan safe, housed, and connected to the people and community that mean everything to him.
Thank you for helping Jordan through this critical moment.
