Joana's birthday is THIS Saturday! We’re raising $3,000 to get her closer to her dream of a reliable car so she can keep working, creating, and thriving. Let’s make this birthday unforgettable and get her rolling!
Jojo does NOT know about this, so please don't forward to her or let her know this is happening!
Full Story (in Jojo's words)
My Beloved Community,
My birthday is coming up, and this year I’m opening up to ask for something that feels tender and brave: a car of my own.
For the past few years, I shared a car with my previous partner. Since our separation, I’ve been navigating transportation by renting cars from friends and friends-of-friends. It’s been resourceful, creative… and also a little exhausting.
Right now, my biggest need is getting to work — I commute from Oakland to Marin five days a week. My current borrowed car goes back mid-month, and without a replacement, I’ll be in survival mode.
For the amount I’m paying to rent each month, it makes far more sense to put that toward my own reliable used car. That’s why I’m fundraising: to cover the down payment, DMV fees, insurance, and a small repair buffer so I can move with more ease, independence, and stability.
Why This Matters
This isn’t just about a car — it’s about community care over going it alone. It’s a mutual aid moment: a chance for me to receive support and for us to close this gap together.
How We’ll Use the Funds
Down payment on a dependable used car
DMV fees, taxes, and registration
First month’s insurance
Small buffer for repairs
Our Goal
We’re aiming for $3,000 by Saturday (Jojo’s birthday!). We’ve already raised $300 — every bit counts, whether it’s $5, $50, or $100.
