Help Jojo and Her Pets Find a Safe Home
Donation protected
Hi my name is Linda I came across a woman out walking close to dark on route 68 on Wednesday night. I had seen her many hours eariler. She was pushing a shopping cart. Along side her was her dog and in her cart were her 2 kittens. I could not leave her out there so I took her to the Red Roof Inn Room 115. She goes by the name Jojo, short for her middle name Josephine. Shaquana Josephine Dejesus is her full name.
She is a sweet woman who told me despite her circumstances she still has faith and prays every morning. She has been working to improve her situation. She has started a social security file just needs to go in person. Same as with Snap program. She's reached out to catholic charties, and other places looking for a place to stay so she can save money for a deposit needed to move into any rental property. She already receives SSI monthly. Catholic charities and other organizations suggest she give up her furbabies. That's not an option for her. Her furbabies are her family.
This women is so grateful for the kindness showed to her from our community already. I am also so thankful for the support we've been able to provide her. "It warms the heart" as a woman said to me about helping another person. Which I already knew but surely worth saying here.
Any donations will help keep her and her furbabies off the streets til a warm cozy place that allows pets is located. We have a special Realtor Anjie Kumar working on that. We have a great community filled with kind people. When I picked up Jojo I didn't know how I was going to help her more. I knew she was going to wake up the next day knowing in hours she'd be back out on the street. She was just so happy for the night in a safe warm place. Jojo was not really worried about herself when it came to food. She told me she had food for her dog and cats, she would be ok. She now has food, an aldi gift card and her room is covered til Sunday I believe. Her SSI check is deposit into her account in the 27th of the month. Let's try and keep her safe til then and help with security deposit.
I tried for a long time to adjust the photo. I hope everyone can see the picture well enough to get the message. I will adjust it later and add more photos. I just wanted to get the page up and running.
Thank you to everyone❤️
Update: Jojo received an email to return to Social Services regarding her request for housing. I will take her back on Monday afternoon.
Jojo is paid at Red Roof/Hometown through Friday morning 3/28/2025 thanks to yet another kind soul.
I spoke with the Manager and in the event Jojo gets emergency housing any money not used will be returned.
Jojo got a call from a psychiatrist she had previously reached out to. The doctor went to RedRoof and did an intake evaluation which lasted a few hours and sounded quite emotional. Looking down the line the psychiatrist will make arrangements for transportation for Jojo to see her once things are approved. This was a very important step in her journey.
I was contacted by someone with Bordentown Trinity United Methodist Church about free hot meals Tuesday along with a food bank there and at St. Mary's. Thank you to whoever passed my name along. This will certainly help!
Things are progressing nicely for Jojo. I'm hoping she will get some good news tomorrow.
Thanks to all involved we, together kept Jojo, Kali (her dog) and her two cats off the cold streets of our town, fed her and her furbabies along with those who help with much needed clothes. There's been care packages along with cash donations. Lots of Love shown.
Nothing was known about this woman and a lot of us trusted because thats what we did, and she needed help! Warms the heart.. if you haven't met her yet maybe you will and see how we restored, not her faith she already had that but restored her faith in the people in the world. Mostly our area. She says she feels safe here and would like to have a new beginning here. We'll see where her road takes her.
I'll update everyone after Mondays trip to Social Services Office.
Thank you again!
Update: Great news! Jojo was back at Social Services bright and early this morning. She worked hard at getting everything requested from SS case worker.
Jojo was approved for emergency housing along with other services. Social Services will help her to get into a place she can call home. SS have allotted her up to $1300 (must include utilities) which they will cover. Her case worker gave Jojo some resources which include available apartments. She has the next 28 days at the Days Inn in Wrightstown paid for by Social Services.
If anyone knows of rentals in this area $1300 or under please contact me at [phone redacted]. She will take a studio, anything right now. As Jojo has said to me previously "I'll upgrade later".
Most importantly Jojo has an appointment with a psychiatric care team in our area on April 7th.
This woman needed a hand up and we answered the call! No wonder Jojo wants to stay in this area. It's pack full of kind people!
All the credit will go to Jojo she worked diligently getting all her previous records. Making sure she supplied Social Services with everything to prove she has been working for 6 months trying to get out of her situation. She just could not do it on her own. She needed just a little bit of help. She has not let her foot off the gas in trying to get to her goal. A safe warm place for her family.
Jojo asked me to tell all of you thank you! She is grateful for all of you! When she makes it to her goal, in a home of her own she will post pictures. She's very determined!
The gofundme will stay untouched until needed. We have been fortunate that everyone stepped up in one way or another so we did not need to take money from the account as of yet. It will come in handy in the near future.
Thank you Everyone ❤️
I'm sure I'm forgetting something. This day was jammed packed full of good news.
