Justice for Charity Powell Beallis
Charity Powell Beallis was a loving mother, daughter, and dear friend to many of us who have known and loved her since childhood.
Her life — and the lives of her precious children, Elliana and Maverick — were tragically lost, leaving their family and loved ones devastated and searching for answers.
In the months since this tragedy, Charity’s family has struggled to obtain basic information about the case. Despite an unusual press release issued by the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office and statements from Randy Beallis’ attorney suggesting a definitive conclusion, the Sheriff’s Office also states the investigation remains ongoing. At the same time, Charity’s loved ones have not been able to access the autopsy report, and very little information has been shared with the family or the public.
Those who knew Charity know how deeply she loved and fought for her children. In the months leading up to this tragedy, she was actively seeking help — reaching out to officials, writing letters to leaders, and using every resource she could to ask for protection and accountability. When the systems meant to protect her failed to act, Charity was even forced at times to represent herself in court, where she fought fiercely for her children and held her own despite having no formal legal training.
Many questions remain about the handling of this case and the events leading up to it. Prior domestic violence charges were reduced or dismissed despite testimony describing similar patterns of abuse, and several aspects of the case have raised concerns for those seeking transparency and accountability. These circumstances have left Charity’s loved ones deeply concerned that critical failures may have occurred across multiple points within the system.
Because of these unresolved issues, Charity’s son, John “JR” Powell — with the support of family and friends — is seeking experienced legal counsel to pursue transparency, accountability, and justice for his mother and siblings.
