My name is Johanna, and I never imagined I would be in a position where I would need to create a GoFundMe — but my family and I are in a situation where we truly have nowhere else to turn.

Over the past three years, our lives were completely uprooted by a combination of severe financial abuse and manipulation from someone who took advantage of us during our most vulnerable time. Because of this person’s actions, we lost everything — including my home in the United States and the financial security my mother and I had built over a lifetime. I lost not only my savings, but even my heritage property. I am now in Greece only because I was fortunate enough to have family here — otherwise I would have been homeless.

During this financial destruction, my mother became very sick. With the I money I had left, I physically took care of her, and paid for her medical care on my own until she passed away. After losing her, we struggled even to cover the funeral costs. I was grieving and also trying to keep us afloat, all while this individual walked away without any consequences, leaving me with the debt, the loss, and the responsibility.

Today I am trying to start over from nothing. I am doing everything I can to rebuild, but the truth is: I am in a very difficult financial situation. I am asking for help — not for luxury, not for comfort — but simply to stabilize my life so I can stand on my feet again after losing my home, my mother, and everything I worked for.
