Our dear friend Joey — media consultant, publicist, master of ceremonies, but most importantly, one of the warmest humans you'll ever meet — suffered a heart attack three days ago while living in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He is receiving good care and his doctors say he will make a full recovery. But he needs our help to make that happen safely and without financial stress.

What happened:

Joey has spent his winter months in Puerto Vallarta, as many of us know and love about him. Three days ago, without warning, he had a heart attack. He is currently in hospital, stable, and in good spirits — because of course he is, he's Joey.

The good news is that his doctors are confident in a full recovery, and he is scheduled to fly home to Canada at the end of April, health permitting.

Why he needs support:

Joey is a contract worker. There is no sick leave. No employer benefits. No salary ticking over while he rests. A heart attack doesn't just take a physical toll — it stops everything.

There is also a very immediate and practical challenge: Joey's current home is located outside the city, up a steep hill, and three storeys up with no elevator. For someone recovering from a heart attack, that is simply not safe. His circle of friends here wants to find him accessible, central housing closer to the city, his doctors, and the people who can look after him for the next 5-6 weeks.

What this fund will cover:

* Safe, accessible housing in Puerto Vallarta city centre for approximately 5-6 weeks of recovery

* Follow-up cardiology appointments and medications

* Transportation to and from medical care

* Lost income support during his recovery as a contract worker

* Travel assistance to ensure he gets home to Canada safely at the end of April

* A financial cushion for the unexpected, because recovery rarely goes exactly to plan
