help Joe & Shayla continue his fight against Glioblastoma
Donation protected
We began this GoFundMe page when the unthinkable happened. Joe Huckaby suffered a seizure on February 19th, was hospitalized, and learned he had two brain tumors, which were determined to be an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer – Glioblastoma. Within two weeks the amazing care team at University of Florida Medical Center (Gainesville, Florida) had removed the operable tumor, leaving the other to be treated. Joe and Shayla were only beginning the journey to challenge and attack this deadly disease.
Last week, the care team presented the initial plan for addressing the remaining cancer which includes 6 weeks of intensive chemotherapy and radiation. This requires them to leave their home and businesses and temporarily relocate to Gainesville to undergo treatment, followed by 3 months of trial treatments which will require hospital stays in Gainesville.
Joe and Shayla need your help now more than ever. With the mounting medical bills, travel costs to and from Gainesville, and the inability to work, they are facing immense financial strain. Your generous contributions will go directly toward supporting them through these next few months, covering expenses such as:
- Medical bills and treatments not covered by insurance
Travel and accommodation expenses for Joe’s treatments in Gainesville
Everyday living expenses and bills
- Mortgage payments, utility bills, expenses at home, business expenses & other expenses at home
Any unforeseen needs as they navigate this difficult journey
Any amount you can donate will go directly toward the mounting costs associated with their temporary relocation expenses while also assuring this brave couple a place to come home to.
**Every Donation Matters**
Friends, family and the community have shown their love and support for this couple through prayer and an outpouring of monetary assistance, for which they are grateful. During the next 6+ weeks they will be staying close to the Medical Center where Joe will have treatments Monday through Friday. While the University has a wonderful program for providing housing support during treatments, costs for travel, weekend accommodations, and food are their responsibility.
After the first treatment plan is completed, Joe has been accepted into an experimental treatment plan for this insidious disease which will provide hope for Joe and the people to whom the unthinkable happens. This will require more time away & stays in hospital, as well as recovering from the impact of these intense six weeks of radiation. Joe and Shayla are both incredibly grateful for the love and support they’ve received so far and are overwhelmed by the kindness of friends, family, and strangers alike. They are determined to fight this with everything they have, and with your help, they will have the strength and resources to continue this battle.
Thank you for your generosity, your prayers, and your support during this incredibly difficult time. Together, we can make a difference in their lives. I know times are very challenging for many people, so if you’re not able to donate, please consider sharing this page with your friends and family. To those who have already contributed in any way, words cannot express how grateful we are for your kindness and generosity. You have given us hope, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
