<div>We began this GoFundMe page when the unthinkable happened.  <strong>Joe Huckaby suffered a seizure on February 19th</strong>, was hospitalized, and learned he had  two brain tumors, which were determined to be an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer – Glioblastoma.  Within two weeks the amazing care team at University of Florida Medical Center  (Gainesville, Florida)  had removed the operable tumor, leaving the other to be treated.  Joe and Shayla were only beginning the journey to challenge and attack this deadly disease.

<div>Last week, the care team presented the initial plan for addressing the remaining cancer which includes 6 weeks of intensive chemotherapy and radiation.  This requires them to leave their home and businesses and temporarily relocate to Gainesville to undergo treatment, followed by 3 months of trial treatments which will require hospital stays in Gainesville.

The Chasing M's Foundation Community Toy Drive

<div>In 2015, Haylee had an awake craniotomy at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX to remove a tumor that was located in her motor cortex. The surgeon was able to remove about 90% of the tumor and still keep all of her motor functions intact. The pathology report returned showing that she was diagnosed with a rare, primary, recurrent brain tumor called an Oligodendroglioma. Following surgery, she completed 32 proton therapy radiation treatments and 12 oral chemotherapy treatments.

<div>For about 6 years Haylee continued to have close monitoring, clear scans and went on to enjoy life to the fullest with her husband of almost 12 years, Lance, their oldest daughter, Kenlee (age 9) and they even had boy/girls twins, Layton and Hadley, in 2018 (age 4), God has a funny sense of humor, there’s a story there.

<div>In May of 2021, Haylee had a grand mal seizure and since then she has had several other focal motor seizures and was hospitalized in July 2022 at MD Anderson for cluster seizures. Since these events, the doctors have gathered there is tumor progression and despite all of the anticonvulsant medications her team has tried, she is still having multiple seizures weekly. She has been diagnosed with refractory epilepsy which are seizures that do not respond to medications and he was told her best case going forward with no intervention would be one seizure a week and continue on the max dose of three different medications that interfere greatly with everyday life.

<div>Because of all of this, her surgeon and oncologist have decided the best route would be to have another awake craniotomy to remove any tumor possible without causing any deficits to her left hand/arm/face. MD Anderson will be partnering with another great surgeon at UTMB, who specializes in seizures, to map the seizure focus with hopes to remove it during the same surgery to give her seizure freedom going forward.

<div>The process will be broken into two separate trips. The first will be to UTMB in Galveston, TX to be admitted for two weeks for 72hr external EEG, followed by electrode implantation directly into her brain, monitor for a few days and hopefully this will give a clear indication of where the seizure focus is located for removal.
</div>

</div>
<div>The second part will be the actual awake craniotomy. Shortly after returning from UTMB, she will go to MD Anderson for another two weeks for pre-op diagnostics, surgery, ICU and observation.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Depending on pathology, they advised that another round of chemotherapy may be likely. This would be 6-8 months and require Haylee (and a caregiver since she can no longer travel alone) to fly back to Texas monthly.
</div>

<div>Haylee, her family and friends are extremely optimistic and ready to take a step toward getting her back to her best quality of life. They have continued to let God lead them and allowed their faith to carry them through this last year and a half. However, this time around with surgery/treatment they have a lot more responsibility/children/etc. Haylee had to step down from her job recently due to seizure activity and medication side effects. Because of all of these moving pieces we are asking for support on their behalf. Above all, we want to wrap them in prayer.

Haylee's Healing!

On October 14, 2019 my wife, Sherry will undergo her 2nd open heart valve replacement surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.  Sherry will be admitted in the hospital for up to a month, God willing with no complications and an additional 2 months out of work.  Sherry will be admitted to the hospital on October 9th for pre-surgical testing, a heart catheterization, bridging and 4D echoes.  Although we are excited and thankful that the Cleveland Clinic has decided to take on her challenging case, we are also nervous and concerned.  Her first open heart surgery was on November 3, 2008 in Atlanta, GA.  The surgery was extremely difficult on her, 19 days in a coma on life support, the recovery time, long term prognosis and the following 10 years have had many life threatening challenges for Sherry.  the effect of the TIA's, mini strokes, as well as the valves not operating as Doctors originally thought they would have led us and the surgical staff to decide that open heart valve replacement, for a second time is required and required ASAP.  The soonest they can fit her in is this October and they moved schedules around to get her in that soon.  Knowing this, we are looking at an out of pocket expense, prior to surgery of at least $12,000 which does not include her loss of wages for a minimum of 3 months.  I was very reluctant to set up a GoFundMe account as I always feel there are more in need than Sherry and I but after much advice and many of our friends suggesting that Michael, Brittany and I need to do this, well, here it is.  I have set a goal of $15,000  to help with the out of pocket costs and loss wages, anything and everything will certainly help and I have set the goal date for the end of September.  If you are unable to help though, we completely understand and ask that you keep Sherry in your prayers for a positive and speedy recovery.  Thank you all for your support, prayers and help, words can not express our gratitude.  We love Sherry and need her in our lives, this surgery will go a long way in making sure that happens.

Sherry's 2nd Open Heart Surgery

Two years ago, when I was pregnant with our son, Blake and I made the decision for me to walk away from my job because the bullying from my boss (who happened to be family) had escalated and became unhealthy for me and our unborn son. In doing this we knew it was going to be a tough road and it was. We lost our health insurance, defaulted on our bills, and struggled to put food on the table. On my birthday I found myself in the DFCS office applying for government assistance and wept as I handed the employee behind the window our application. Never in a million years did I see us being so dirt poor that we had to ask for assistance like that, but I am forever humbled and thankful that it was there in our time of need. Shortly after requesting help with our health and food, we found ourselves moving in with my parents and filing for bankruptcy. While Blake frantically tried finding work God ALWAYS seemed to come through for us. We made every effort to keep my car, while surrendering Blake's in the bankruptcy. And like I said before, God always came through. Whenever we needed to pay the bill, someone (or my parents) would need something done in their house and would hire Blake to fix it. <br /><br />In 2017 as Christmas approached we were in the thick of our financial devastation and learned that we were expecting TWINS! For a couple who tried for 8 years to get pregnant and was told there was no chance because I had no "viable" eggs God blessed us with now 4 children naturally! But omigoodness! What on earth were we going to do?? How could we possibly provide for our 2 year old, 6 mo, and soon coming twins? In the midst of our panic we decided to take to our prayer board and write down our needs. One of those needs was a bigger vehicle for me (obviously now with more kids), and a vehicle for Blake. We prayed, trusted, and prayed some more believing that these requests would manifest. <br /><br />In the summer of 2018 my sister and brother-in-law gave us their old truck. What a blessing! And a month later a friend of ours since high school bought us a vehicle that would accommodate all of us and sold it to us (allowing us time to pay). THEN, shortly after, my best friend since childhood called me up and asked if I was in need of a vehicle and with tears streaming down my face, I told her that in fact I was. I mean, does God answer prayer or what?! Wow!<br /><br />So, why are we asking for your help? Blake recently got a job in Colorado and moved out there while the kids and I stayed back until we could afford for us to move. He's been living with friends and working tirelessly to try and provide. With him trying to save enough money for us to rent a home, he's also trying to earn enough money to pay our friend back for the vehicle he bought us (he decided to use this vehicle instead of the truck because it could accommodate the entire family and had 4WD). This is a lot of stress and we desperately want to pay him AND lock down a home so we can all be together. With your help we can pay our friend back and focus on getting a home. <br /><br />While we are ever so grateful for my parents unbelievable support, we are longing to FINALLY get on our feet again, have a place,  and provide for our children the way we were intended to. <br /><br />Will you help support us so we can make this a reality?
