I moved in January 2025 because my daughter was being harassed by a racist neighbor at our last apartment complex. I thought I was moving us into a safer neighborhood, but it’s been a nightmare ever since. We’ve witnessed murders, people running their spouses over with cars, theft, gang activity, car accidents, and have had to deal with roaches and, most recently, rats. My daughter is terrified, and so am I. As a single mother, I shouldn’t have to feel disgusted, scared, and uncomfortable—especially paying the amount I do for rent. I’m struggling as it is, and I just can’t do this anymore. I will not renew my lease, which means I’ll be homeless soon. As long as my daughter has a place to rest her head, I can stay in my car until I figure out a solution. I need help—so much help.
