John “JJ/Jay” Boykin has always been the one to show up for others. As the president of his local Fraternal Order of Police, he’s constantly on the move supporting his brothers and sisters in blue, as well as being a steady presence for family, friends, and anyone who needs a hand. What many don’t see is that he does all of this while relying on a power wheelchair—one that has recently stopped working altogether.
With his chair no longer functioning, his wife—who has undergone two knee replacements and manages ongoing medical concerns—now has to push the heavy, non-operational chair everywhere he needs to go. It’s exhausting, unsustainable, and unfair for both of them. JJ currently has no insurance to cover repairs or a replacement, and there is no solution in sight.
I’ve located a reliable refurbished wheelchair at a reasonable price, but we need help making it happen. JJ would never ask for this himself; he is humble to a fault and would be embarrassed by the attention. For that reason, we are trying to keep this effort as private as possible while still reaching those who care about him.
If you’re able, any contribution—big or small—will help give JJ the mobility, independence, and dignity he deserves. Thank you for supporting someone who has dedicated so much of his life to supporting others.
