HELP A DISABLED ASYLUM SEEKER IN ICE DETENTION!
Jesus Duran is a father, a son, the provider of his family. He an asylum seeker who is currently in detention with the possibility of getting deported.
Jesus arrived to the U.S. seeking asylum because of his opposition against the Venezuelan government. Since then, he complied with all requirements set by the law.
After being here legally for more than two years, Jesus suffered a life-changing injury at his workplace, which left him with perpetual injuries to his spine that left him unable to walk properly. The insurance and the company refused to pay for his medical expenses.
Tragically, he was detained alongside his girlfriend at a Walmart after scanning incorrect items at checkout. Since then, he has been under ICE custody at the Port Isabel Detention Center, where a Judge and ICE have denied him possibility of parole or bond, despite him never being convicted of any crime.
Upon being detained by ICE, Jesus has been denied proper medical care, with the officers of the jail calling him a cripple, or mocking him for the way he walks. His health has been continuously deteriorating as a result of from detention, and his family is unable to cover basic expenses because he was the main provider of his household.
Jesus has been in detention for more than 100 days. He faces medical and psychological challenges, and his girlfriend has already chose to deport back to her country.
Despite this, Jesus wants to remain in the US and we are asking for our community to help with his expenses in these difficult times.
