Help Jessica and her children following a fire
Donation protected
At around 12:00AM on Friday, a single homeless mother and her 3 daughters currently housed in a shelter in Ottawa could have lost their lives when the fire took over their room in the middle of the night. They were asleep and did not feel anything. The mother who had just taken out 1800$ to pay her bills and food for her family lost all her money as well as other important documents such as their permanent resident papers in the fire. They also lost shoes and clothes.
During the incident, the fire alarm did not go off which could have resulted in great tragedy!
The 1-year-old baby woke up crying, screaming and desperately slapping her mother’s face to wake her up. The baby saved her family.
The manager of the shelter has allegedly demanded the departure of the family. Although we know that this may not be legal, the family does not have the strength to fight this fight right now.
We also believe that it is unnecessary to keep them in a negative environment, especially following this trauma.
The mother urgently needs your support. The funds will used to:
- Replace the money and items that were lost during the fire ($1800)
- Her big move on November 1st, 2021, to purchase home items. The move is just 7 days away.
ACAO (The African Canadian Association of Ottawa) will be moving the family today into a hotel.
Systers in Synch and Equal Chance will be coordinating the donation of items for the family with ACAO.
You can also donate items. To do so, please email:

We thank all of you for stepping up for the family! It really takes a village!
May God give this all back to each one of you!
