My father was detained by ICE in February while on his way to work. We received no clear information about his whereabouts and had to persistently advocate to locate him at a holding facility, where he was told he would only stay briefly before being transferred to a detention center. Seeing the strongest man I know, the hardworking father who raised three children and sacrificed everything for our better future, look defeated behind a visitation window for just a few minutes was heartbreaking. No reason was given for his arrest other than the color of his skin. Now our family is being ripped apart as we navigate the justice system, seek legal help, and fear for his safety while trying to cover basic needs like groceries.
