Hi, my name is Kate Mirabito, and I’m fundraising for my dear friend, Jen Olver.
Four weeks ago, Jen’s life changed in an instant when she was hit by a car while crossing a pedestrian crossing on Pittwater Road in Brookvale. The impact was horrific. Jen was thrown over the bonnet of the car, hit the windscreen, and was then thrown several metres onto the road. She suffered a dislocated knee and a severely shattered ankle, along with significant emotional and mental trauma from the accident.
We are incredibly grateful that Jen survived, but the road to recovery is going to be a long one.
At the moment, Jen is struggling to walk or leave her first-floor apartment. She has had multiple surgeries, and more are booked in to have her mobile again in the future. This means she cannot work, drive, take her 9 year old son Jasper to school, or manage many of the everyday things that most of us take for granted.
Jen is a contract worker, so unfortunately she does not have access to paid sick leave. As a full time single mum, this has put an enormous amount of financial and practical pressure on her and Jasper. Family and friends are doing everything they can to help with school runs, day to day needs and appointments, but there is only so much they can do.
Right now, Jen’s priority needs to be healing and getting through this incredibly difficult period without the added stress of worrying about how she will pay her bills and support her son.
We are hoping to raise enough money to help Jen and Jasper get through the next three months while Jen is unable to work. Donations will go towards essential living expenses, bills, transport, support with Jasper’s needs and other unexpected costs that come with recovering from such a traumatic accident.
Any contribution, no matter how big or small, would mean so much to Jen and Jasper. Your support will give Jen some breathing room while she focuses on her recovery and, most importantly, getting back on her feet.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family and local community would also make a huge difference.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Jen’s story and for supporting her and Jasper during this incredibly challenging time. ❤️
