Today at Walmart, I saw something that broke my heart. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, I noticed an older blind man—Jeff—struggling to walk along the sidewalk. My sister and I immediately stopped to help him inside. Jeff told us he had fallen in the road the day before, lost his phone, and hasn’t been able to reach the one person who used to help him. He has no family, no support, and all he asked us for was a Coke. We got him food, drinks, desserts, and a new cane because his had been run over when he fell.
When we drove Jeff home, our hearts completely shattered. His apartment had been broken into and everything was taken. He has no A/C or heater, no kitchen appliances, roaches, flies, broken glass, and only a bare mattress with no bedding or pillows. He’s been begging the complex to help, but nothing has been done. He can’t get around on his own and has no way to call for help. My family and I are doing everything we can, but Jeff needs more support than we can give alone.
We’re setting up this GoFundMe to help with a safe motel for a few nights, food and basic necessities, a new phone, and possible assistance getting him into better living conditions. Anything—truly anything—helps. And if you can’t donate, sharing this means just as much. Thank you for helping us help Jeff.
