Help Disabled Army Vet and Wife Secure Housing
Hello, my name is Gavin and I am trying to help out my neighbors, Jeff and Red. They have lived next door to us for the past 7 years in a small home that they have been renting from a life-long friend. Unfortunately, that life-long friend recently passed away, and the family has decided that they no longer want to keep the rental property. They have given Jeff and Red two months to buy the house or find a new home. Under normal circumstances, while this would be a blow to any family, this would be a situation that could be handled, but for Jeff and Red, this poses a pretty big problem. Jeff is a disabled army veteran and is confined to a motorized wheelchair. He is a quadriplegic with limited use of his arms and legs. Due to his disability, Red's full time job is to care for him. So, money is tight and they can't just move into any apartment or home. Ideally, they would like to buy the house they currently live in. It is already set up for him and his chair and they have built a life there. To do this, they would need to come up with a sizeable downpayment. Finding a new place is always an option, but the housing/rental market in this area is extremely scarce currently. There are very few rental options to begin with, and even fewer that could accommodate Jeff and his wheelchair. The few houses that are available are well above Jeff and Red's price and would require costly renovations to accommodate his wheelchair as well. Jeff and Red are great neighbors, great friends, and great people in general. They are the kind of people that never ask anything of you, but are the first to help you out however they can. This neighborhood wouldn't be the same without them and we would hate to see them go. We are hoping we can raise enough money to help them buy this house or at least give them a nice head start. Thanks to everyone who can help them out!
