My name is Jeanne and I am the mother of a 31 year old man with schizophrenia who is struggling and about to be homeless. He lost his housing due to being too symptomatic. He only has a small disability income. He has been failed by Oregon's mental health system entirely. They do not have facilities available that can deal with his level of illness.
He does not have the life skills or ability to care for himself on his own. For 30 years I have done everything in my power to keep him safe and alive to my own detriment. I have lost everything trying to get him the help he needs over the decades, including my career, my relationships, my homes, and even my car. And now, I have run out of options. He's on all the waitlists for shelter...but now he is going to be on the street in hours unless I can find a miracle. He will die if he does not have adequate support. I need help to keep him alive. His income will not cover this scenario.
My son has a colorful story and has even served our country briefly as a Marine, although he was not in the service long enough to qualify for veteran benefits. Yet, because of the trauma he endured in the service, he is now completely disabled. He suffers from delusions and psychosis and is in desperate need of adequate care, though I have been unable to find it in this state.
I love my son with all my heart, and he deserves so much better than this. Anything you can offer to help would be appreciated.
