Help Jazmyne serve her Doula client

Donation protected
Hi friends,

Update: Thank you to the Board of Heart & Sol Collective! This need has been met. They reached out personally and told me. I love my birth community.

Thank you, Heart and Sol!

If this campaign resonated with you and you want to give to help me grow into my own Midwifery practice that would be appreciated. Thank you for clicking and reading my story!

My name is Jazmyne Turner I’m a student Midwife (NARM Phase 4) and certified doula, in Las Vegas, NV, nearing the end of my Midwifery apprenticeship.

Recently, I made the difficult decision to step away from my Midwifery apprenticeship with a Certified Professional Midwife Practice in Las Vegas and she is refusing to pay me for my work.

After working with the practice for nearly 2 years as a student midwife, office administrator, teacher, and Doula (independent contractor) I communicated my need to realign expectations. This decision followed months of growing tension around my setting boundaries as a student midwife, advocating for myself as a student, and standing in my truth as a clinician. Rather than stay in an environment where open communication, transparency, and respect were no longer present, I made the choice to end my apprenticeship with the Lead Midwife and move to another practice.

I provided the practice with notice and notified my clients. Because care transitions can be stressful for families, I wanted the clients (that I'd taken on while under contract with the preceptor) to know of this transition. I personally reached out to each of the clients, letting them know of my departure from the preceptors practice. They all chose to continue their care with me at the new location.

Unfortunately, one of my Doula families had already paid in full. As an independent contractor, I am contractually entitled to 70% of that payment for Doula clients. I followed our established invoicing protocol for this client, but despite submitting my payroll documentation twice and following up multiple times, the midwife is now adding bogus and extraneous “client transfer” fees as justification for not paying me.

I am faced with financial hardship because the Midwife charged bogus and extraneous fees. So I’m turning to my community for support. I’m raising $1500 to cover the remaining care for this family—ensuring they aren’t caught in the middle of something they didn’t ask to be part of.
I want to serve this family. I should be able to serve this family. Right now I need a little help, because waiting for this midwife to find their integrity may never happen.

If we exceed this goal, all funds will go toward supporting other families who need sliding scale or low-cost midwifery services through my practice Birth Mother Midwifery. If you want to give but prefer Cashapp I’ll update the campaign: @BirthMotherMidwifery.

With deep gratitude and grounded love,
Jazmyne Turner, Midwife
