Help Jaylen Get His Own Apartment!
Donation protected
Jaylen is a former foster son of ours. He came to us the day before Christmas when he was 15 and spent almost a year here. He then moved to another foster home and was sent home with his sister (and zero resources) by DHS when he was almost 17. His sis wasn't equipped to care for him and he has floundered ever since - dropping out of high school, sleeping on the floor and hungry.
He's been just surviving. He turned 18 in March.
Jaylen should not have been released from DHS care to a home that couldn't care for him. If he had "aged out" of care (turned 18 while still in DHS custody), he would have good financial, physical and emotional resources to help him prepare for life as an adult. DHS provides money for young adults to get their own apartment, etc.
Unfortunately, Jaylen gets none of that. He reached out to us in April because he was starving. He came to dinner on April 27th and has been here ever since.
Since he joined us, he's gotten a job (and promoted), been given a car, gotten an ID and is working toward his drivers' license. He's working SO HARD.
He's now been offered a great job in Fayetteville and needs his own place. He's working and saving but needs help with a deposit, first rent and furnishing his apartment.
I know we have friends who love to help in these situations. You guys are amazing! He will be so thankful for any and all help he gets.
