Hi, my name is Cyla. My brother Jay was working 50 hours a week when he suffered a stroke in February this year. He hasn't gotten the clear to go back to work. He has been homeless since shortly after he had a stroke. He has applied for help with housing, yet hasn't received any assistance yet. Only a few times has he been able to stay at a shelter overnight. The majority of his days are spent riding loops on public transit, hanging out at parks and libraries, and looking for a meal and a place to sleep at night. He has a daughter who he loves dearly. Her name is Sunshine. She is his Sunshine and his world. Having had shared custody with the mother, she cut off his ability to visit or talk on the phone to his daughter. There have been court papers filed and a court date set where the mother wants to try to get complete custody and the reason listed is because my brother Jay is homeless. He loves his daughter and tries and cries every day to get the chance to talk to her, yet the mother and her boyfriend are not allowing it. There are many witnesses of how good of a father my brother is to his daughter. With a pending court date for custody and him receiving medical care through Oregon state, it's not feasible for him to leave the state to stay with family who live in other states in the country. He has established doctors and health insurance there and has to get tests and consistent visits with them. In addition, he doesn't want to abandon his role as father just because he suffered a stroke and isn't able to work and is homeless now. Having our own financial struggles, my family has been helping a little here and there when we can. I have been praying every day for months that my brother will have shelter there in Oregon. After investigating ideas of how to help my brother, I am pleading for help to get him an RV so he can be sheltered from the cold and rain that has already started in Hillsboro, Oregon. An RV he can drive from site to site might be a more sustainable and affordable shelter option for him at this time. Since he cannot return to work yet, it would be difficult to rent a place, so that's why I am asking for help to buy him an inexpensive used RV. My months of prayers for my brother have finally led me here. He has diabetes as well and needs to stay warm. Please join me in helping my brother be sheltered from the rain, cold, and elements that are coming with the seasonal changes. Please help him have a reason to dry his eyes and lift his head with hope and feel blessed by the Lord! Despite his suffering, he has done what he can to help others. He has picked up trash on the transit. He has tried to help serve at the same shelters where he gets a meal from but they won't let him because he is homeless and they told him he has to have permanent housing to volunteer. He greets people on the transit and wishes people a good day when he gets off. My brother has a heart of gold, he just needs help from others right now.
Please join me in being the Lord's hands to get my brother an RV.

  • Hola, me llamo Cyla.
