Jason Hawley - Aneurysm Rupture Warrior

Donation protected

**Please see most recent update - Jason lost his battle on August 12, 2022. Our little family is devastated and we face a long road of trying to rebuild our lives without him**

My name is Brooke and I'm raising funds to help my husband, Jason, get the rehabilitation he needs & get him back home after a ruptured aneurysm nearly took his life on April 24th 2021 - just four days before his 40th birthday.

Funds will go directly toward making our home handicap accessible, medical equipment needed to take care of Jason in our home and covering his ongoing medical espenses.

Jason is a dedicated father,  husband & friend. He's a good man who had no way of knowing when he went to take a nap because of a headache, that he would wake up a month later unable to move or talk.

The day of the rupture, Jason was flown by life-flight to a hospital with a brain and spine specialty unit where he underwent emergency endovascular surgery to repair an 11mm ruptured Acom Aneurysm. He spent the next 40 days in critical care fighting for his life. He was then transferred to a specialty hospital to help him regain consciousness. Now, we are in a rehabilitation hospital where the light in his eyes has finally started to return.

Since coming to the rehab hospital, Jason has regained some movement in his arms and, with the aid of a cutting edge robotic exoskeleton, he was able to walk today. He is struggling with functional use of his hands,  but there has been progress. He is still unable to talk, as his voice is gone, but with speech therapy we believe his voice will come back.

As of today,  Jason has one more month left of insurance coverage for his rehabilitative care. After that month, the insurance will want him to transition home. But, with a global edema hemorrhage,  it takes time for the inflammation in the brain to heal enough for a patient to get the maximum benefits from the rehab. All stroke patients need more rehab than they get,  but I am determined that he will get every hour that he needs to get back on his feet and be able to live a good and productive life.

**THE FIRST GOAL in this fundraiser is keeping his insurance going to appeal for him to stay in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital to maximize his chances for a full recovery. If the appeal to stay at the rehab hospital fails, then paying for the therapies he needs on an outpatient basis is the next step.

**THE SECOND GOAL in the fundraiser is making our home handicap accessible by adding a wheelchair ramp, widening doorways & purchasing a hoyer lift  ( a lift will enable me to transfer Jason from bed to his chair and back again at home safely by myself).

I have been by Jason's side everyday since the rupture acting as his advocate; being his voice, his hands & his rock. This is what love does. He is a 'never give up' guy who has never given up on me.  He has defied all odds most of his life. Even though we were given only 10% chance of survival,  I knew if anyone could fight his way back from this,  it was going to be Jason.

I've done my best to keep our boys focused on the silverlinings and help them hold onto hope for a bright future for their dad and for our family. But,  they are still sad at the loss of the life that "was" and scared of the uncertainty of the life that will be.

Our family just needs help. Help for Jason to get the amount of rehabilitation services he needs. Help to make our home accessible & safe for him.  Help to get these vitally important things funded so that the stress of this doesn't take any more a toll on my children than it absolutely has to.

There aren't words enough to express our family's gratitude for any and all help that comes our way. Jason deserves the best chance to reach his best post-stroke potential and I want to do everything in my power to give him that best chance.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story.  I will post updates and pictures of our recovery journey as I'm able ❤
