Please help me save my brother from my dad.
Hi! My name is Jasmine, and I’m currently trying to take my father to court so I can save my brother from a neglectful and, quite frankly, abusive situation. When I was 13, I was kicked out of my dad’s house after long-standing abuse of at least two years from what I can remember. I was beaten, gaslit, starved, manipulated—the whole nine yards. I’ve seen my brother about three times in person since then. When my father kicked me out, he not only separated my brother from me but also from my mom (with whom he had a custody agreement). He took my family away from me and my brother, cut all contact, and was held in contempt by the state of Georgia for disobeying his court agreement and not showing up. Two years ago, he moved to Mississippi with no notice to me, my grandmother, my cousins, or my mom. From this point, they went totally no contact until about a month ago when my stepmom and stepsiblings reached out. We’ve gotten my two stepsiblings out of the house; my brother, however, can’t be obtained without going to court, which brings us to this GoFundMe.
I’m 19, and I have close to no way of actually taking my dad to court. It’s extremely costly, and while we do have a good case, we can’t afford a lawyer or fees; we can only afford the after (taking my brother and caring for him). He has high-functioning autism, and due to the neglect he’s faced, he has close to no life skills. He cannot cook, my father’s not put him in school, he has no structure—nothing. If you know anything about autism, a schedule is extremely important. I work in ABA therapy and can help him with all aspects of his autism that affect him daily and that my father has neglected.
He does not have food; the fridge is empty. He’s left alone for long periods while my dad works, yet he’s still neglected.
If you know me personally, you know I’ve been waiting for years and years for the right time to get him out. I’ve been waiting to have the money to hire a lawyer, but I fear I’ll never be able to, and I don’t know where else to go. I’m at a dead end.
All funds would go towards court/lawyer fees, and anything extra would go towards things to help my brother, including a house for us to house him, ABA therapy, clothes, food—anything at all. If not any of those, I would donate it to a charity towards abuse prevention.
From me, my mom, and my other family, PLEASE help me get my brother out of his home.
Thank you so much if you read through all this. I’m sorry if it’s jumbled; I’ve never done this before.
