My name is Jarrod Wright-D’Abreau, also known as Rod — or online as RodOlajuwon (or Rodolajj). I’m a 22-year-old multidisciplinary artist from Spanaway, Washington — a small subcity just minutes from Tacoma and about 40 minutes from Seattle.
As an artist, I wear many hats: I design and produce clothing, run my own brands, creative direct for others, produce beats, write and distribute music, and organize concerts, pop-up events, and conventions. Creativity is how I breathe, heal, and give back — it’s how I stay connected to myself and my community.
In 2020, I launched my first clothing line, DISCIPLISTS, with one mission in mind: to create bold, meaningful garments that speak to the real-life struggles I and others face — especially those rooted in systemic oppression. That first year was a labor of love. I created a full collection from scratch, including handmade jeans and the piece that would become my most recognized design: a shirt that boldly read “F*CK NICOTINE.”
That shirt wasn’t just a design — it was a statement. It reflected the internal struggles I was facing while trying to discover my purpose and identity in this world. Around 2021 and early 2022, I saw an influx of new clothing lines pop up on Instagram and TikTok. It became easy to get lost in the noise, but I stayed grounded and continued to create, even if the message I was pushing didn’t go viral overnight. I stayed true to it, and surfaced new pieces I made to see how my peers felt about them; in reality I never sold anything else but F*CK NICOTINE Tees after my first collection. I stayed true to my purpose. Never once did I compromise my journey or my growth to keep up with the state of fashion. Doing everything in my power to preserve the real art I had made and curated over those years.
The “F*CK NICOTINE” tee resonated though. I made many different versions of it, wore them EVERYWHERE, sold them at pop-ups occasionally, gave them away, and shared them across the entire country. Through word of mouth, my faith, and persistence, what started as a personal expression became a quiet movement — one that grew far bigger than I expected. Many people wore/owned the shirt without even knowing I was the one who created it — and that only fueled my passion more.
Over the past five years, I’ve done a lot of soul-searching. I’ve continued to create, but I’ve also had to face some painful truths. Like so many young people, I turned to substances — nicotine, marijuana, and other drugs — to cope with the weight of the world around me. I lost friends. I lost direction. But through it all, I never stopped creating. Art was the one thing I held on to when it felt like my world was falling apart.
The turning point came when I stopped running from my feelings/problems and started listening more — really listening — to what God was trying to show me. I realized my purpose was bigger than clothing or music. I was put here to lead, to influence change, and to protect the next generation from themselves. Knowing that I disliked seeing them going down the same roads I did once before.
Today, I’m proud to say I’ve broken free from nicotine and all substances I use to abuse. I now live with a clear, sober mind — and for the first time in 22 years, I feel truly aligned with my purpose doing EVERYTHING I ever wanted. I've found discipline. I've found clarity and a seer's vision. Now, I want to give that back knowing what I know now. That’s why I’m launching this nonprofit organization.
It is named: FromCloudToCloth
Our mission is simple: to remove vape devices from the hands of youth, one shirt at a time. We’re debuting this movement starting in my hometown — with my alma mater, Spanaway Lake High School, during Eli’s Pursuit of Greatness Basketball Tournament on June 7th and 8th. I want to implement a vape for t-shirt trade system in schools nationwide. Allowing students to do exactly as stated, Trade in their vape devices in exchange for free, high-quality t-shirts brought to you by #FromCloudToCloth — turning a harmful habit into a powerful statement of self-worth.
But this is about more than t-shirts. It’s about community. It’s about showing young people that they’re seen, valued, and capable of change. It’s about offering healing through creativity — and giving back the way I wish someone had for me.
We’re asking for your help!
Our goal is to raise $10,000.
Your support will help us:
- Print and distribute over 500 shirts
- Register and legally establish our nonprofit
- Fund event materials and outreach tools
- Support future school events and expand our reach
- Build infrastructure to grow this into a national movement
This movement alone is the most meaningful thing to ever happen for me — and I can’t do it alone anymore. Whether you can donate, share, or simply spread the message, your support moves us one step closer to changing lives.
Let’s show the world what happens when we trade clouds for cloth — and remind our youth that their future is worth breathing for.
