Help Janet & Lawrence Get a New Vehicle
Donation protected
Aunty Janet and Uncle Lawrence sure could use your help. These two elders have been having a rough go of it recently. You may recognize Janet from videos of her standing up to midnight incursions by the RCMP at the Gidumt'en Checkpoint, or more recently as part of the Wet'suwet'en delegation to the RBC AGM in Saskatoon. Her partner Lawrence is always right beside her, and as a retired carpenter has lent his expertise to numerous projects on the yintah.
After a long period of representing the Gidumt'en clan at the Wet'suwet'en frontlines, Janet has been recovering from a knee surgery this winter. Then bad luck struck in the form of black ice on the treacherous Hwy 16, leading to an accident that totaled their reliable war pony. A replacement vehicle was found which seemed like a reliable solution for them. Until it started running rough on a recent trip, and unfortunately has a blown engine.
This fundraiser has been created to get Janet and Lawrence back on the road. Even for simple things like trips to the grocery store, J&L need a vehicle to stay self-sufficient. They also need to be able to travel in order to access medical care, and of course it needs to be something that can handle the logging road for when they travel up to the yintah.
As two elders on a pension, this is a stressful situation to be without a vehicle. Let's show them that for all the times that Janet and Lawrence have stood for the community, that now we can pitch in to support them.
Please spread the word and give generously if you can. EMT can also be sent to [email redacted]
